In a development in the case of 17-year-old Salma, a Christian girl who was abducted and trafficked in Sheikhupura, Pakistan, the bail application filed by the accused, Umer Farooq Khatri, was dismissed by the Additional Sessions Court Judge in Sheikhupura.
Despite this, the accused has sought bail again by filing a new application in the Lahore High Court, where today, our (ECSPE) Advocate Slavance Jacob represented Salma's family, seeking justice on their behalf. The family and their legal team are committed to holding Khatri accountable under Pakistani law and ensuring he faces justice for his actions.

Background of the Case:
Salma's ordeal began when she was abducted from her home in Sheikhupura. Suffering from mental health issues, she was taken by Khatri, who subjected her to multiple instances of abuse and exploitation. Over time, she was sold to several men, enduring horrific conditions. Eventually, in May 2024, she was returned to her family in critical condition and tragically passed away three days later.
The family, led by her father, Munir Masih, filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Khatri, who, along with others, is accused of trafficking Christian girls. While the police have made some arrests, they are also suspected of favoring Khatri, a factor that has created additional challenges for the family.
Despite these obstacles, Salma's family, with the assistance of our organization, the Emergency Committee to Save the Persecuted and Enslaved (ECSPE), remains determined to pursue justice. We request your prayers and support for families who are being persecuted for their Christian faith.
