Religious Discrimination And Medical Negligence: Persecution Of Christians In Pakistan

A tragic incident at Civil Hospital Sahiwal, Punjab, Pakistan, has once again highlighted the persistent religious discrimination faced by Christians. Doctors, entrusted with the duty to save lives, were instead involved in shocking medical negligence and displayed hatred towards others based on their faith.

Yousaf Masih Gill, a Christian resident, has reported that his father, while critically ill and struggling for his life, was subjected to shockingly unprofessional and discriminatory treatment by hospital staff.

According to Yousaf Masih, a Muslim female doctor at the hospital made a chilling statement: “If I had known earlier that you are a Christian, I would not have touched your father.” This remark, laden with religious bias, reflects a terrible level of prejudice that violates not only professional ethics but also fundamental human rights. Almost every day, Christians in different parts of Pakistan face discrimination and persecution. The level of hatred against Christians and other religious minorities has reached unimaginable heights.

Yousaf Masih added that when he and his family entered the doctor’s room, they were shocked to find all the doctors engrossed in a game of Parchisi during their duty hours. Desperate for help, Yousaf Masih requested them to attend to his critically ill father, but they were dismissively told, “We are playing a game. We will check him later.” This blatant disregard for a patient’s life reveals extreme negligence and gross misuse of professional responsibility.

Discrimination In Every Sector of Life:

In Pakistan, Christians continue to face widespread persecution and discrimination across nearly every sector of life. In schools and colleges, Christian students often encounter prejudice and bullying and are marginalized for their faith.

In hospitals, as seen in recent tragic incidents, Christian patients are subjected to neglect and biased treatment by medical staff. Even within government and semi-government institutions, Christians are frequently denied equal opportunities, facing systemic discrimination in hiring, promotions, and fundamental rights. This general prejudice creates an environment of inequality, making it difficult for Christians to thrive and live with dignity in Pakistan.
